After some months of negotiating with the gubernatorial candidates as well as media, we are pleased to announce that the California Gubernatorial Debate will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 6:30 p.m. in Angelico Hall on our campus. Veteran NBC broadcaster and author Tom Brokaw will serve as the moderator for the debate between Republican candidate Meg Whitman and Democratic candidate Jerry Brown. The debate will air live at 6:30 pm on the California NBC stations including NBC Bay Area, KNBC Los Angeles, KNSD San Diego, KCRA Sacramento and KSBW in Salinas/Monterey and will be offered to other California NBC stations. C-SPAN and Telemundo will also air the broadcast. The announcement today has already generated media attention throughout the country; that momentum should continue as we get closer to the October date. Below are links to some of the coverage about Dominican's presentation of the debate in today's media. This is a significant debate and election and our involvement underscores our presence within the higher education landscape.http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/08/04/BA8N1EOB9E.DTLhttp://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/08/04/4813210-the-midterms-breaking-down-the-ks-mi-and-mo-resultshttp://www.mercurynews.com/news/ci_15676367?source=rsshttp://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/politics/Tom-Brokaw-to-Host-Calif-Gubernatorial-Debate-99939259.html

PRESIDENT'S CITIZEN MEDAL WINNERS

President's Citizen's Medal winnersWe received over 6,000 outstanding nominations from around the country. It was a tough choice, but we were able to narrow it down to 13 recipients of the 2010 Citizens Medal:http://links.whitehouse.gov/track?type=click&enid=bWFpbGluZ2lkPTIwMTAwODA0LjExOTQ4MSZtZXNzYWdlaWQ9TURCLVBSRC1CVUwtMjAxMDA4MDQuMTE5NDgxJmRhdGFiYXNlaWQ9MTAwMSZzZXJpYWw9MTI3NjU5MDk4NSZlbWFpbGlkPXJheWxvcmJlckB5YWhvby5jb20mdXNlcmlkPXJheWxvcmJlckB5YWhvby5jb20mZmw9JmV4dHJhPU11bHRpdmFyaWF0ZUlkPSYmJg==&&&101&&&http://www.whitehouse.gov/citizensmedal?utm_source=email71&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=citizensmedalThis year's Citizens Medal recipients should serve as an inspiration to all Americans: A widow who lost her husband on 9/11 and turned her grief into a message of hope for Afghani women whose husbands were lost to the Taliban; a school bus driver who delivers hot meals and coffee to New York City's homeless and forgotten 365 nights a year; a North Chicago nurse and childcare professional who opened a live-in resource center that has given help and hope to hundreds of pregnant teenagers. They are all powerful reminders of the impact individuals can have on their community and on the world.Congratulations to this year's Citizens Medal recipients, and thank you to the millions of Americans who strive to make their communities better every day.Sincerely, President Barack ObamaP.S.
